The Crow and the Dawn

In a bustling city in the east of the country, there lived a crow on a big neem tree. The crow used to watch the world from the above every morning and felt very proud. But why? Every morning when the first rays from the sun touched the sky, the crow would happily flap its wings and let out a loud sound – “Caaw! Caaaw!”

One day the crow was in deep thought, and puffed up his feathers, and said to himself, “Oh, how important I am! It is thanks to my cawing that the world wakes up to the light of the sun. It is my cawing that brings up the sun every morning. And, without me, the whole world would be in chaos!”

After talking to himself about it, the crow was quite curious to test how important he is, and if his thought was right or not. So, he decided he would not caw the next morning. “I am not going to caw tomorrow, and let’s see what happens.” He happily smirked, shut his eyes, and went into a deep sleep.

It was morning, and the crow saw that the soon rose like normal. The golden light from the sun was seen all over the city, and everything was just as the day before. Birds were chirping on the trees, people were going about their day, and life just carried on. No one, except the crow were aware of its little experiment.

Seeing everything being normal, the pride of the crow was shaken. But he did not admit the truth. But he got angry instead. In anger, he muttered, “Hmph! I know what happened here. It might be another mighty crow like that cawed and did the job for me!”

After saying so, he flew off into the sky. He was still convinced that the cawing of the crow was the reason the sun rose every morning!

Moral of the Story

Those blinded by arrogance refuse to see the truth, even when it’s right before their eyes.
